Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw to your attention the symposium: CARIBBEAN PLATE TECTONICS (G-20.11) convened by MANUEL ITURRALDE VINENT (Museo Nacional Historia Natural - CUBA) and GIUSEPPE GIUNTA (Università di Palermo - ITALY), that will be held during the 32nd International Geological Congress (August 20-28, 2004, Florence, Italy; http://www.32igc.org).

The symposium aims to promote an interdisciplinary discussion on the Caribbean Plate Tectonic models. This session will be the last scientific meeting of the IGCP Project-433, after 5 years of research on Caribbean tectonics and regional geology. During the meeting we will evaluate the present status of the Caribbean Geology and Plate Tectonics, in order to encourage a critical interdisciplinary review of the models and to reach an agreement concerning the basic facts that should serve as a framework for the formulation of a properly substantiated model of the Caribbean Plate origin and evolution, as well as the paleogeography of the area. Moreover, the authors will be encouraged to discuss on both their different points of view and field experience in key areas of the Caribbean and its surroundings.

The Session will include both invited and volunteered oral presentations, as well as a poster session.

Deadline for abstract submission will be January 10, 2004. You must submit your abstract to the Scientific Committee of the Congress.
