The GUA/02 (IGCP 433 Workshop and Field trip) on the Motagua Suture Zone of Guatemala, organized by the Italian Caribbean Working Group, the IGCP 433 and the Sociedad Geologica de Guatemala, has taken place on January 28, 2002 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Ciudad de Guatemala, and has been followed by a field trip (January 29 - February 1) along the Motagua Suture Zone.

During the workshop, held in honour of Gabriel Dengo, in which 90 partecipants attended (see the attached list) several topics have been treated by researches from different countries, who presented the main problems and results of the guatemalan geology. The conclusive discussion has been aimed at the IGCP 433 project.

The list of talks and related speakers is also attached at this report. The SGG, the IGCP 433 and the It.Caribb. WG will edit a special volume which should be published by the CESEM (Centro Estudios Sup. Energia y Minas, Fac. Ingegneria USAC, Guatemala) in the 2002.

All the listed speakers are kindly requested to send their manuscripts to Manuel Iturralde-Vinent (IGCP 433 leader) before July 31, 2002; the volume will include also the field trip guide book by Giunta et al.:
