Groundwork: the start of construction
Photos from November 22, 2005
Looking north at the BEG across the construction site. The site was recently leveled.
Looking east at the storm drain trench along the south side of the building.
Looking east in the middle of the construction site. Red and green markers locate the main E-W and N-S construction grid lines. Worker at left is preparing rebar for a pier.
Parts of the BEG were demolished to make room for the 3-story connector between it and the new building. In the foreground is the construction of the "chunnel" which will protect new and existing utility lines under the connector.
Close-up of the chunnel construction work. The two pipes are chilled water lines.
Protected trees in foreground; breaking up rocks in the background.
Looking south from the BEG. The swale in the background is where TACC's massive computer room will go. The foundation will be depressed here to accomodate a raised floor at the same level as the rest of the first floor.
