Work begins in earnest on the interior; 3rd floor now accessible; first inspection of the exterior mock-up

Photos from February 21, 2006

A foggy, drizzly day for this visit.  Over on the west wing the welders are putting up framing for the exterior wall and parapet.

Over by the BEG, the exterior mock-up is complete and is being inspected.  The mock-up is a test bed for the exterior finishings: brickwork, windows, flashing, drains, etc.  Here the architects and construction managers are inspecting the "first draft".

That's Bart Kleiman, at the UT Office of Facilities Planning and Construction, pretending to point something out for the camera.  The offset in the windowsill brickwork, just above Bart's finger, is the boundary between two different test scenarios for laying out the brickwork beneath the windows.

Tremendous activity on the first floor - here a welder is putting in some cross-bracing.

Plumbing being installed in the bathrooms - here is where the toilettes will go: men to the left, women to the right.

Lots of ductwork ready for installation.

Here's the first installation of air ducts in the first floor ceiling.

These workers are putting in electrical conduits across a framed hallway.

Work is almost complete on the floor boxes and conduits in the seminar room.  This area should have its slab poured shortly.  Unfortunately I'm standing in some of the highly toxic blue anti-cockroach solution - thanks to Brett for letting me know I might want to wipe my shoes off!

In contrast to the frenetic activity on the first floor, the second floor is almost deserted.  Here a worker is squeegying some of the rain water.  The concrete has been poured on both the 2nd and 3rd floor, and the west stairs can be used to go up and down.

The third floor is just as deserted, but at least it's brighter while the roof is not complete.

Here a lone worker is completing the 3rd floor on the connector.

Yea - that's me. This is my first photo from my office location on the 3rd floor.  Not much here but a floor and a view.
