JSG students to receive
Outstanding Student Paper Awards from AGU
Two students from the Jackson School of Geosciences will
receive Outstanding Student Paper Awards for
their presentations at the 2004 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting.
The Seismology Section of AGU selected
Dhananjay Kumar to receive the
award for his presentation on "Estimation of Gas-hydrate Saturation at the Hydrate Ridge,
Offshore Oregon." Dhananjay's PhD dissertation is on the analysis of multi-component
seismic data in anisotropic media. He is working with UTIG's
Mrinal Sen and Paul Stoffa.
Dhananjay will graduate in Spring, 2005.
The Hydrology Section of AGU selected
Lorena Moscardelli
to receive the award for her presentation on
"Debris flow architecture and processes in offshore Trinidad:
Implications for basin fill in tectonically active margins."
Lorena is a PhD candidate working with
Lesli Wood (Bureau of Economic
Geology) and Paul Mann (UTIG) on
the DM2
Trinidad industry study. Lorena's dissertation research is on the
Quaternary evolution of the northeastern corner of South America.
