Process
This is an activity designed to help you get a handle on some of the similarities and differences between the Arctic and Antarctica. Rather than tell you what these are, it makes more sense for you to discover them for yourselves. After all, Antarctica and the Arctic are often in the news and are remote and dangerous places to live and work .Here's what to do:
- Gather your teammates together. It's recommended that you have four individuals (mostly this will depend on the people in your class and the number of networked computers you have available).
- Each team will be divided into two groups. One group will explore the Arctic and the other group will explore the Antarctic. Within the groups divide the links below to explore.
- The task is to find out information comparing the Antarctica and the Arctic.
- Give yourselves one class period of online reading, surfing, and thinking time to explore your group's links.
- As you're reading, consider the source of the information (any reason to doubt the truth of what you're reading?) Info on understanding good websites.
- With 10 minutes remaining in class or the following class period, rejoin your teammates.
- Each person should share the main information that were discovered relating to Antarctica or the Arctic.
