There will be two researchers from UTIG sailing on the Chicxulub cruise.  The cruise is also a part of the Texas Teachers in the Field program, which allows K-12 teachers to accompany UTIG scientists on expeditions, participate in all aspects of the research and data collection, and develop K-12 curriculum which can then be shared with educators.  The scientists from the U.S. will be accompanied by colleagues from the United Kingdom, and Mexico.

Gail Christeson
UTIG Researcher

Gail is a seismologist with special expertise in marine geophysics, mid-ocean ridge structure, oceanic crustal structure, and ocean-bottom seismology. Her work frequently involves using UTIG’s OBS instruments in a variety of settings, most recently offshore the Yucatan Peninsula, at the Lesser Antilles subduction zone, and within Bransfield Strait.

Sean
Gulick

UTIG Researcher

Sean is a marine geologist and geophysicist specializing in deformation of the Earth in subduction zones, impact craters, and complex tectonic settings.  His work usually included integrating seismic reflection data with ocean drilling and submerisble observations.  He has imaged the subsurface offshore California, southeast Japan, New Jersey, and will be traveling to Alaska this summer.
