There are a number of different reasons why scientists choose to conduct their research in Antarctica.  For some, it represents one of the last unspoiled place in the world making it ideal for meteorological, biological and astronomy studies.  In addition, Antarctica plays an important role in global ocean and atmosphere circulation and may significantly contribute to future sea-level rise.  In understanding Antarctica, scientists are better able to predict the effects of human life on the planet.
