Research interests:
Alejandro's current research is focus in the investigation of the Tertiary evolution of the Venezuelan margin basins (offshore and onshore), by integrating 2D-3D seismic data, well data, and previous published studies in the region (Towards an integrated understanding of regional seismic stratigraphy, age of deformation, basin subsidence, and petroleum systems of the northern offshore margin of Venezuela). He is funded  by the Petroleum Research Fund of the Chemical Society, the Jackson School of Geosciences, the CBTH consortium and the Institute for Geophysics.

His main interests are:

  1. Basin evolution along complex continental margins using subsurface data
  2. Regional to reservoir petroleum geology
  3. Construction of integrated databases (e.g. Venmar), based on ArcGIS and HTML files
  4. Plate tectonic and paleogeographic evolution
  5. Integration of academia and industry through research consortia (e.g. CBTH)
  6. Visualization of regional data using Fledermaus software
  7. Supervision and technical support to graduate students
