About Irina:
Irina Filina was born in Leningrad, USSR on September 20, 1974. After graduating from high school in 1991 she entered the Department of Physics of Saint Petersburg Sate University (SPSU). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in May 1995 and her Master of Science degree in 1998 with specialization in nuclear magnetic resonance. After graduation from SPSU she worked as an engineer in Polar Marine Geological Research Expedition (PMGRE), Saint Petersburg, Russia. She processed radar sounding data of Franz Josef Land Archipelago, Arctic and East Antarctica. She participated at 1998, 1999, 2000 field seasons in Arctic and 2001 field season in Antarctica.

In the summer semester 2002 she entered the University of Texas at Austin as a graduate student to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Geophysics. Her advisor was Dr. Blankenship. She graduated in December 2007.
