Students and Post-Docs Supported/Advised (Current and Former):

Since joining the UTIG research group in 2006, I’ve had the good fortune of working with some extremely bright, talented, and hard working individuals . . .

Rebecca Boon worked on the Curacao project and help assess the slope stability and slide history of a large headwall adjacent to Caracas Bay, Curacao. Rebecca was directly involved in all aspects of the coring and chirp survey and played a vital role in lab analysis. She analyzed the gravity cores as part of her senior thesis, and presented her results at the Spring 2008 AGU-Ocean Science meeting in Miami. Rebecca has since graduated from UT, and is now a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Geosciences at Penn State, where we expect good things to come.

Jessie Dawson is an undergraduate student at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. Jessie joined our ultra-high resolution 3D seismic imaging cruise off the Oregon coast as a research assistant during the summer of 2008. During the cruise, Jessie played an active role in data collection, and was involved with deck-work, watch-standing, and data quality control. Following the cruise, Jessie worked on tide correction analysis at UT. Jessie plans to attend UT in two years, after completing her degree at FVSU.

Will King worked on the Curacao project. Will spent a significant amount of time field mapping faults and structure surrounding the Caracas Bay headwall and slide, which we used to assess erosion patterns and structural/slope stability in the region. Will is a geologic jack-of-all-trades, and not only an excellent field geologist but a wiz with GIS and other geologic/geographic software. Will has since completed his undergraduate education at UT and now lives the good life, working for a very fine energy company.

Sabine Wulf-Bowen (http://www.ig.utexas.edu/people/staff/swulf/) worked with me on the Curacao project from 2007-2008. Sabine designed and led the coring component of our two week expedition to Curacao in August 2008, and played a key role in overseeing much of the coring analysis.  Sabine used these cores to characterize and differentiate potential storm and tsunami deposits in the region. From these data, she hopes to reconstruct the timing and frequency of high-energy wave events in the southern Caribbean.
