Chicxulub

In The Field

Chicxulub 2013

Map of the Yucatan Peninsula and Gulf of Mexico

UTIG researchers are in the Gulf of Mexico now, conducting a geologic survey off the Yucatán Peninsula. The goal of the survey is to collect data in support of future drilling into the Chicxulub Crater. The UTIG team members are Sean Gulick, John Goff, Dan Duncan, Marcy Davis, Steffen Saustrup, and Jason Sanford. The UTIG researchers are joined by collaborators Heather Stewart (British Geological Survey, Edinburgh, UK), Ligia Pérez-Cruz (UNAM - Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexico City, MX), Jaime Urrutia (UNAM, Mexico City, MX), and the two representatives from Seafloor Geotech. Jason, a graduate student at the Jackson School of Geosciences, will be providing us a window into their field work.
