Tom's personal page

Tom is a marine seismologist specializing in the application of seismic reflection methods to the study of convergent margin processes. He is focused on the role of fluids in accretionary trench margins and how they influence the distribution of low-shear-strength fault zones. He is part of the team of UTIG researchers pioneering the academic use of 3-D seismic techniques to image subduction zone processes with experiments offshore Costa Rica, the Barbados Trench and the Nankai Trough. These projects have been combined with ocean drilling experiments, which significantly improves our insights into the relationship between hydrologic and tectonic processes at accretionary margins. He is also responsible for creating UTIG's Marine Seismic Data Center (SDC) web site, which makes the Institute's 30-year archive of marine seismic reflection data available online to the international marine geophysical community and industry. The data center role has been expanded to include seismic data from all National Science Foundation sponsored seismic experiments.
