Strong, Hilary Hilary Strong received third place for the Best Student Poster Presentation Award at the AAPG Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, June 7-10, 2009. Her presentation was entitled, "Consolidation Characteristics of Mass Transport Deposits in Ursa Basin, Northern Gulf of Mexico."

Sawyer, Derek Derek Sawyer received the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California, Dec. 15-19, 2008. His presentation was entitled, "Formation of Submarine Debris Flows from Strain Weakening: Examples From the Ursa Basin, Northern Gulf of Mexico."

Alvarez, Tricia Tricia Alvarez was awarded the 2009 Ike Crumbly Minorities in Energy Named Grant" by AAPG for her proposal, "Tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Columbus Basin shelf-to-basin-floor system: A study of a clastic basin system in an active plate margin setting."

Contreras, David David Contreras won First Place in the Student Poster Session at the 2008 AAPG Annual Meeting, San Antonio, Apr. 21-23, 2008. David's presentation was on "Structural and stratigraphic correlations across the Burro Negro fault zone, northeastern margin of the Maracaibo supergiant basin."

Carter, Sasha Sasha Carter has been selected to receive an Outstanding Student Paper Award for his presentation, "Ice flow history, basal melt, and hydraulic connections in the Dome C Lake District headwaters over the last glacial cycle inferred from hyrdopotential, internal layers, and basal reflectivity in airborne radar sounding data," at the 2007 AGU Fall Meeting (Cryosphere Section) in San Francisco.
