Radar sounding in the Dry Valleys

An example view taken from the aircraft over lower Taylor Valley.
The view includes Commonwealth and Canada Glaciers and Lake Fryxell.

Taylor Glacier Terminous

A portion of the UTIG airborne radar sounding profile of Taylor Valley. The debris flow, Lake Bonney and Taylor Glacier are possible terrestrial analogs for radar studies of present and paleo water deposits on Mars.

Beacon Valley

A portion of the UTIG airborne profile of Beacon Valley. The rock glacier and the polygonal patterned permafrost of the valley floor are possible terrestrial analogs for radar studies of contemporary subsurface water on Mars. The valley floor appears to slope up because the aircraft is descending.
