Quaternary fault maps

The International Lithosphere Programs (ILP) Task Group II-2 (Western Hemisphere) is nearing its end with the publication of Quaternary fault maps for ten countries in Central and South America. The most recent report was released yesterday for ECUADOR. Although not all Latin American countries participated in this international effort, a large portion of the region has been completed. These reports are available as pdf files (map and text reports) for free by downloading them. The following reports are currently available from the USGS web sites listed below.

Country Authors Year Website
Costa Rica Montero and others 1998 http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1998/ofr-98-481/

Ecuador Equez and others 2003 http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2003/ofr-03-289/

Hopefully, Peru will be completed this calendar year. The Latin American Quaternary fault database is being right now for web access by Hector Cisneros and Carlos Costa (Univ. Nacional de San Luis, Argentina). It and a parallel effort for the United States (sponsored by the USGS) should be essentially complete and go online later this year.
