Earthquake Terminology:
- Trace
- the line marking the intersection of the fault plane with the
surface of the Earth evident only when the fault reaches the Earth's
surface
- Rupture Surface
- the part of a fault over which displacement occurs during an earthquake
- Hypocenter
- the place of origin of an earthquake commonly specified with a
latitude, longitude, and depth
- Epicenter
- the part of the Earth's surface directly above an earthquake hypocenter
