EQ terminology

Earthquake Terminology:

Trace
the line marking the intersection of the fault plane with the surface of the Earth evident only when the fault reaches the Earth's surface
Rupture Surface
the part of a fault over which displacement occurs during an earthquake
Hypocenter
the place of origin of an earthquake commonly specified with a latitude, longitude, and depth
Epicenter
the part of the Earth's surface directly above an earthquake hypocenter
