The Search for Water on Mars
Water is the most basic element for life as we know it to exist.  Over the last few decades there has been much evidence to give probable cause that enormous amounts of water may have once existed above the surface of Mars and may exist now under the surface.  Such large amounts may have once supported life on Mars.  Even the duration of water on the surface may give clues on how advanced the life may have become.  These possibilities pose many curious and profound questions about our role in the universe, our technological possibilities and even the fate of our planet.  Mapping water in its various forms is perhaps fundamental to answering such questions.  By knowing where water currently exists and knowing where it once existed we can find clues on the possibility of life and glimpse into Mars’ ancient past.
