The Drake Passage and Bransfield Strait...
The Drake Passage: The
Drake Passage is one of the most feared stretches of ocean in the
world. It extends from the southern tip of South America to the
Antarctic Peninsula. This is the convergence of four seas. The winds
can create huge waves because there is no land in this area to stop the
force of the wind. Winds in excess of 100 miles per hour and waves of
more than 50 feet are common. Huge storms can form in hours making
travel nearly impossible.
