The Route to Chile: The trip began on
October 23, 1995 from
Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee, Wisconsin. My wife, Nancy and
son, Simon accompanied me to the airport. My departure was made even
more hectic by the arrival of a news team from one of the local TV
stations. This is a clip from my departure
The Flight South From central Wisconsin my
next stop was
in Chicago. Unfortuantely I was a little worse for wear, having
experienced some motion sickness on the plane. I was able to get help
at the airport and made my connecting flight to Miami. Once in Miami I
met four members of the science party that were taking the same flight
as me to Santiago. My traveling companions on the flight were, Dr.
Larry Lawver from UTIG, Dr. Scoot Borg from NSG, Dr. Dick Von Herzen
from Woodshole Institute, and Jim Lundy from UTIG. It was a 10 hour
flight to Santiago from Miami.
