Abstract:
Having just arrived in Austin on August 20th, I am unable to write an in-depth abstract. So instead, I will explain what I am currently doing.
Over 130 drop cores sampling eastern offshore Trinidad and obtained from Conoco are in the process of being slabbed. After the completion of this task, cores with interesting features will be x-rayed to observe sedimentary structures not apparent to the naked eye. A map will then be made showing the sediment distribution of the ocean bottom and the location of the cores will be visualized in pre-existing 3D seismic data. The lithology of the cores and the relationship to the feature sampled (i.e. mud volcano, fault, submarine canyon) will be analyzed and presented at the December meeting.
