Table 3: Potential for basal melting.

Table 3: We evaluate the potential for basal melting by modeling temperatures with assumed geothermal heat flux values of 65 and 70 mW/m2.  For each run, the temperature history is assumed to have been: 1) constant for the past 10 kyrs, 2) 10 degrees cooler than present at 15 kyr BP (LGM), and 3) 6 degrees cooler than present at 80 kyr BP.  The accumulation rate history was assumed to have been piece-wise linear, 1) constant during past 10 kyr, 2) decreasing to 0.4 of its present value by 15 kyr BP (LGM), and 3) grade back to present value at 80 kyr BP.  An estimate of the basal melting rate is reported for sites where the bed temperature goes above the pressure melting point (PNP).
