Seismic Project Information EW0005
Nicaragua Subduction Factory

Part of the Nicaragua Subduction Factory project, this 2000 cruise (also known as NicSeis) of the R/V Ewing was off the western coast of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Over 2500km of seismic data and approximately 580km of OBH refraction data were shot. The purpose was to acquire, process, and interpret an extensive MCS survey supplemented with three selected refraction profiles and additional Hydrosweep swath bathymetry. These data will be used to document variations in the subducting Cocos plate structure and stratigraphy and the effects of these variations on the upper (Caribbean) plate.
