Any local printer queues you had set up previously on igdrasil will not work in the future. Please delete them. They cause unnecessary network traffic. This means opening the "Printers and Faxes" control panel, selecting all printer queues that have 'on Igdrasil' in the name (except xp_7300) and either "Right-click and delete" or just press the "Delete" key on your keyboard.

Windows Printing

If you are part of the IG domain, printers should now be automatically configured.

1. Start -> Printer and Faxes
2. Printer Tasks -> Add a printer
3. Add Printer Wizard -> Next
4. Local or Network Printer -> A network printer -> Next
5.
Specify a printer
  a. If your machine is a member of the IG domain, then you can browse a printers database.
    1. Browse for a Printer -> Next.
    2. Find Now.
    3. Select your printer from the list. OK.
  b. If not, select "Connect to this printer".
    1. In the name field type: \\ig1.ig.utexas.edu\<name>. If the network is working properly it should build a drop-down when you type the "\". Next.
    2. You may have to supply login credentials. "IG\<username>" and your IG password.
6. Do you want to use this as your default printer? Yes/No? Next.
7. Completing the Add Printer Wizard -> Finish.

Macintosh Printing

1. Applications -> Utilities -> Printer Setup Utility
2. Click "Add". Select "IP Printing" from the popup menu.
3. Choose Protocol: Line Printer Daemon -- LPD
4. Address: ig1.ig.utexas.edu
5. Queue: <name>
6. Select Printer model from the drop down list. If it is not listed you may have to download a PPD from the manufacturer or from IG1 (below).
7. Close the Printer Setup Utility.

Please set your queues up this way rather than using Bonjour. It ensures that everyone prints through the same server, which allows everyone to see what print jobs are active in case there are problems.

go -> connect to server -> smb://ig1.ig.utexas.edu/MacOS
to find the relevant installers. Note: In Leopard, some of these are already integrated and don't need to be reinstalled. Please drag these .dmg files to your desktop before opening them; there are reports that double clicking doesn't work quite the same way. And remember to close the installer "disk" since otherwise it will get backed up.

Unix/Linux Printing

Printers of all known systems have been updated. If yours has not, please email gripe with its name.

Notes

Fully qualified domain names may be useful for wireless or VPN access. Thus "ig1.ig.utexas.edu" as the server name above which is not required at UTIG.
